On Saturday the 28th of August Rev Dr Chris Walker will be conducting a seminar titled, “Relevant Church”.

Chris Walker is the National Consultant for Theology & Discipleship for The Uniting Church in Australia. Chris has served in a range of positions and places in the Uniting Church including local church ministry in three congregations in NSW, as a regional education and mission officer, and consultantfor evangelism and discipleship, in Queensland, as principal of Parkin-Wesley College in SA, and as a mission resource officer for Parramatta-Nepean Presbytery.

Chris has a passion for theology, mission and discipleship. His interest in writing has resulted in various publications including  five books, “Seeking Relevant Churches for the 21st Century” and most recently “Peace Like A Diamond: facets of peace” and “Living Life to the Full: Spirituality for today’s baby boomers.”

The seminar will commence at 9.00am at Merredin Uniting Church on Fifth Street, Merredin. For more information you can download the seminar brochure here.

BLESSING OF THE SEASON

The Churches in Merredin will hold special services in their own congregations on SUNDAY April 18th

Sing Australia Pty Ltd was established in 1985 by Colin Slater OAM, an accomplished singer and singing teacher, to promote singing, Australian compositions and Australian artists. High among the organisation’s priorities has been the encouragement of people to sing using a unique style of teaching for large groups.

Sing Australia community singing groups do not require people to audition or to attend regularly. They are groups that offer the opportunity to learn songs – be it in unison or in parts. The concept also accepts that not everyone can read music, not everyone can sing in tune, and not everyone has yet made contact with their singing voice.

Sing Australia also performs regular concerts and has a very extensive repertoire and there are songs for every occasion in their songbooks. Songs like Amazing Grace, Hallelujah Chorus (The Messiah), Oh what a beautiful morning, Hey Jude, That’s What Friends Are For and Aussie favourite Waltzing Matilda are all part of their song list.

We would love to have you come along this Sunday for the special event. The Performing Arts Centre is located on the railway side of the high school and can be accessed from Throssle Road. Parking is available right outside the door next to the Tennis/Basketball courts on Throssle Road. The event starts at 9.00am.

FANTASTIC GENERAL KNOWLEDGE QUIZ NIGHT

On Saturday July 25th there is a Fundraiser for MSHS Chaplaincy. It will be held at the old Civic Bowling Club Building (Throssel Road) and is being organised by the Church of Christ. More details can be found on the flyer in church foyer.

MERREDIN HAS TALENT CONTEST

Merredin Senior High School are in the process of organising a Merredin has got talent contest. This will be a fundraiser for the Chaplaincy and will take place in August/September (date not yet finalised).

Hopefully the contest will attract people of ALL ages from 5—100 years. Please encourage anyone you know who has a talent to consider entering. It will be a great night of fun and entertainment. More details will be announced when finalised.
